International Awareness and Involvement
of the Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to aiding members of the international community.

International Awareness and Involvement


This committee shall provide programs that will increase the awareness and involvement on international issues. This committee continued its efforts of educating the community, and increasing the awareness of the the internationl iddurd. Programs are planned to provide funding for the maternity hospital operated in Africa. This year's philanthropic focus was the Thika Level 5 Hospital.


Volunteers presented a program in conjunction with the Women in the NAACP (WIN) at St. John AME Church entitled "A Spiritual Healing Program for "HIV/AIDS'. The program included a skit that focused on how even married women are in danger of contracting this terrible disease from their spouses who have been unfaithful to them and who have had unprotected sex with other women who are infected.

The HIV/AIDS Walk 

The annual walk takes place in December. Davis Broadcasting provided a remote broadcasting of the event, as well as ABC affiliate, WTVM. Free testing was provided and speakers offered first-hand knowledge of the devastiating effects of HIV/AIDS.


Kwanzaa Program

Kwanzaa Program, an annual event held in December, provided a program of musical selections, poetry and other readings by the Delta G.E.M.S., E.M.B.O.D.I., and the Delta Academy. A wonderful feast was provided at the end of the program. The purpose of the Kwanzaa Program is to celebrate African heritage through a program of reflections of our legacy as a people. The community-oriented principals and symbols of Kwanzaa educate the participants, as well as the audience, regarding the "First-Fruits" and increases awareness of Pan-Africanism.
